Direct selling’s contribution towards building the economy of India

India is a developing country and even the slightest contribution to build the economy is very big. Direct selling has been helping in terms of the growth of the economy of the country.

Direct selling has played a major role in eradicating poverty. Although in India, direct selling has not been able to eradicate poverty but has subsequently reduced it, which was a major step up for the country and its economy.

Rural areas and direct selling

Direct selling sees a brighter future in the rural areas of India. The best and the most prominent reason being, it doesn’t require a higher level of education or certificates. It requires a seller’s instincts and knowledge of the art of persuasion.

Rural India being more society and humanity driven imbibes strong affinity towards the concept of direct sales. It works well due to deepest logistic penetration that is otherwise cumbersome and expensive. At present, rural consumer has started spending on themselves apart from their farm input products, farm animals. Concept of usage and understanding of specialized specific products is growing to provide good business opportunity to the direct sales industry.

Direct selling is an industry that thrives on connections. Villages or rural areas are usually considered as a closely connected community. It would be easier to make connections and help a business grow faster as compared to the cities, where people are unaware of their neighbours.

How is direct selling helping build the economy?

Direct selling is helping lift the economy in a lot of ways. Economies build through its people. Direct selling puts independent distributors at the centre of its business model and creates a pool of ongoing, personalized growth opportunities in addition to a supplemental income. A company’s focus on personalization needs to start during recruiting. This is when DS companies get to know what internal drivers motivate potential recruits, helping the company to effectively use those factors as a further impetus to success as well as the means to boost distributor retention and productivity.
Direct selling offers a lot. It also helps you inculcate enhanced leadership and management skills, which are beneficial for any kind of job—especially now, when companies in all industries are looking for talent with advanced soft skills. It also teaches you soft skills that make you a better upline who can attract a larger number of new recruits, thus contributing to the company’s growth.

The gig economy is tricky. Some companies try to take advantage of their independent workforces and only care about pleasing their customers, but then they experience strikes, bad publicity, poor productivity, and high turnover. Other gig-like organizations place their distributors’ well-being at the centre of their business philosophy and activities and offer them more than just a supplemental income. And that is how those companies win in the end.

Direct selling is for everyone. It does not discriminate, you could be anyone. A new mom, a retired gentleman, a struggling student looking for extra income – anyone. Direct selling is open to people and it has been working towards building a stronger economy by employing people without any bias.
